I love me some shanghai food and this place hits the spot. This is a pretty large restaurant with a beautiful glass display showcasing the chefs making their famous xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) and other types of dumplings. To order, they give you a paper menu where you can check off the quantity of the dishes you want and you may reference the actual menu to see some pictures. Servers are quick and friendly and all the food was so good. I'm not sure what else to say because I'm a sucker for Shanghai-nese food. The portions are decent
Some dishes I recommend are: soup dumplings, the hot peanut soup noodles, onion pancakes (idk exactly what they're called), and sticky rice.
Price wise, it's a tad more expensive than another restaurant I've been to, but if you have a large group of people who's down to eat, then this place as a lot of seating available. Go try it this place, you won't be disappointed. -

We came here specifically for their soup dumplings. We ordered both the "steamed soup dumplings with dried scallop and pork filling" as well as the "steamed soup dumplings with crab meat and pork filling"; the flavours were unique, the soup in them was plentiful, and the buns were fresh. If I could only choose one, if would be the scallop.
Shanghai style pan fried pork buns were made to order so there was a bit of a wait, but they were hot, fresh and delicious!
The environment was similar to any other chinese restaurant, but the service was pleasant. Not rushed like the usual chinese service. We did go during a downtime between lunch and dinner though, so there were employees cleaning and doing odd jobs within the dining area.
It was enjoyable to watch the chef's making fresh dim sum behind the window.
I hadn't been here since I was a child and it is completely unchanged and the food is as good as I remember! -

Fake! A scam! Literally disgraceful.
Thought this was the real Din Tai Fung that originated from Taiwan, but no! This is a fake one that STOLE the name from the real one. Honestly, if they tasted good I wouldn't have minded the name, but the taste puts the real one to shame.
To have the same exact menu and similar price (unsure if it's the same), it was quite disappointing to find out the food was far from the world famous ones.
But! I must say their Kao Fu was really delicious. None of the supposedly spicy dishes were spicy. The Xiao Long Bao's were average. Rice was soggy.
Service was decent besides from the fact that the servers all stand in a line and watch you eat because of the lack of customers.
To be fair on my part, I should've walked out the moment I saw the hideous logo and the empty restaurant.
Make sure you read up on the other poor reviews, I'll prevent myself from repeating too much of what they also have said. -

Ding Tai Fung Shanghai Cuisine has been in the First Markham Place plaza for a long time now. It basically took the exact name and concept as the famous Taiwan chain but is not associated with them from what I understand.
Serving Shanghai style cuisine, they do a really good job making classic steamed xiaolong bao Shanghai noodles, potstickers, etc..the food here is actually very good. Dumplings are tender and flavouful, noodles are chewy and wraps yummy. Despite the big crowds, the food comes out quickly and hot.
There's a big viewing area where you can see the workers make and wrap the dumolings so great way to steal some secret techniques
Solid 4 out of 5 puppies for very good Shanghainese food -

If you're coming here, you've probably heard of the Soup Dumplings (XiaoLong Bao) and its history. I'd say that the soup dumplings weren't as amazing as I'd expected them to be (due to the hype) but I do agree that they are delicious. A hot, warm, flavorful soup into the bite makes this a golden standard. A sizable portion as well!
When you walk in here, you're taken into a grandioso interior with bright, gold-ish, design and layout. It feels very modern!
